NGUYEN HUY HOANG BRAVERY

In the autumn, October 31, 1986, the most famous lacquer artist in Vietnam once shared “The big picture, is not a small picture enlarged to big one. The bigger the picture, the bigger the inner force you want to draw. ” That is very true for lacquer paintings by Painter Nguyen Huy Hoang, most of them are large format paintings, size 2m – 4m. Painter Nguyen Huy Hoang was born and raised in Hanoi, his father is artist Nguyen Cong Do, so he already had a passion for art painting. He was taken to the Painting Club at Hanoi Children’s Palace when he was four. Devoting and persevering in the love of painting during his school years and at the university of Theater and Cinema.

Graduated majoring in Film Artist in 1986, more than 15 years working at Film Studio I, the painter has molded his own love for lacquer painting. He sets goals, creates a style for himself, explores – creates deep in his own mind to listen and find the direction of development that suits him best.
That is the traditional lacquer painting, with all the burning passion, the fierce creative labor, in order to make the large-sized lacquer, it is necessary to have “Silent – Hard-working – daring”. Artist Nguyen Huy Hoang was very successful in 1998 and 1999 when his works won the first prize in fine arts in Vietnam and ASEAN.

The palette of traditional lacquer itself is meager, by itself, which can be transformed into two main colors: puce and then, from which these two colors can create a multitude of different shades. The traditional acquisition in his lacquer painting is the ability to apply resin to each work. Lacquer can be very ostentatious with its magnificent golden strengths, it can also be surprisingly profound when it comes to showing multiple layers of overlap to show off over time.

In artist Nguyen Huy Hoang always has the sound of nationalism and breath of contemporary, so he considered lacquer art is a bridge for him to connect the past with the present. His collection of “The Sanctuary”, composed from 2006 to 2014, includes 11 paintings on the theme of the Cham ethnic group, with the Dong layout, he skillfully recreates the daily life and the spiritual world of the Cham people.

“Making art, not making something to hang on the wall,” with artist Nguyen Huy Hoang, apart from spending time with his family, he always has the best love for lacquer Painting.
