DEFINITIONS AND OBJECTIVES OF ORDINARY
Graduated from Industrial Fine Arts University, Nghia Pham artist spent nearly ten years designing for a famous software enterprise before working with lacquer. Before lacquer, he also spent a lot of enthusiasm with oil paintings, his paintings are concerned by many reputable collectors inside and outside the country. However, there was something still not full, not satisfied, yet to come that he was still looking for in painting. When immersed in lacquer with natural materials such as gold, silver, eggshell, snail shell, body, shell, paint cockroach, … – Nghia Pham discovered a new territory and discovered himself. For him, giving up a good job to become a lacquer artist is considered as a fateful and charming path.
Have been charmed with lacquer for not long, but by carefully drawing, strictly following the process of making traditional lacquer painting, Nghia Pham has touched and helped people to touch the special emotions, vibrations that lacquer paintings can bring on audiences. The subject in Nghia Pham’s lacquer paintings is mainly nature, flowers, some abstract paintings which are beyond the control of the author himself, reaching the point where he himself could not imagine.
Along with plum, landscape, abstract, lotus occupies a special place in Nghia Pham lacquer paintings. In terms of color, the lotuses were completely removed by the old pattern, not merely the “white yellow flower with green leaves”. In terms of cubes, lotus is manifested during the period of fullness or decline, so it can be healthy and full of vigor or bare fading away. Many lotuses of Nghia Pham evoke a special vibe, the depth of space created by dozens of layers of paint, color and traditional materials still helps viewers feel the beauty, emotion and the author sent. These boundless layers of lang, sometimes hidden under a smooth picture like a mirror. Hand rubbed on the surface of a lacquer painting, the coolness of gold, of silver, of shells, … gradually vanished; feeling surprised to sense the shallow, deep, resonant, … invaded.
Lacquer is never a painting that one can order, date and then take it easy. Whether the paintings are dry or not, the lang layers are as you want it or not, the colors are up to the intention or not, besides the talent of the artist, it depends … heaven. Nghia Pham strictly adheres to the traditional lacquer process, he does not skip or “burn the stage”, cheat any process. A little difference, is that the artist must have a delicate feel to know, with this detail, the grinding process is just that; with other details, grinding 1 layer already, not satisfied, back to draw again, grinding again. The array of light colors – dark, shallow – deep, hot – cold, far – near, … all need prognosis, not just do it is there, every long is a city.
Coming to lacquer, in addition to the delight of a “fresh guy”, Nghia Pham also has the desire for perfection and the ambition of the one who wants to conquer one of the unique cultural heritage. While painting, he learns, explores and regulates himself. In that path, each work born was also mark the grown-up, mature of the artist.
With the outlook “The target of arts lies on our walking path”, painter Nghia Pham express that for him, there is not a paramount artwork, the last artwork, every artwork may is just an outline. Everyday, he continues to learn, to cultivate, with the belief that the greatest artwork still lies ahead.
