TRINH QUOC CHIEN LACQUER – “BUDDHISM MAP”

Painting is hard to put into words. There is a separate language in pictures, it is a sequence of feelings about space, time and attitude of each author. The language of Trinh Quoc Chien lacquer painting is very strange. Because very few paintings have a specific image, distilled naturally. It is a series of symbolic images, secret characters… drawing, carved into chains, forming a series of pictograms seamlessly, making us think of ancient dark hieroglyphic texts …

Artists sometimes do not fully explain why they have such images and lines. But he is only loyal to the fluctuations, the impulses from the senses themselves open. It doesn’t seem to be related to each other, and it is hard for viewers to explain the strange charm from each picture that is hard to understand as soon as it is seen …

What is most strange is that the artist himself claimed that he did not pursue Buddhist art. Because he assumes that Buddhism is a great dedication to humanity to explain the abstract things hard to shape in life. Buddhism is a heaven, the realm of countless branches and bodies, and art is just a boat, a formula – a branch.

For the author, those mysterious figurative shapes are only the artists’ own language. A language not everyone understands. But thanks to it, he was able to experience the most transcendent, most realistic vibe of the human within him. And whoever likes to enjoy, feel and think that those “secret map”, whatever they are scouting and believing in, that’s the freedom of the viewer …
