ART CURATOR (Part 2) – WHY DO WE NEED A PROFESSIONAL CURATOR TO COLLECT ARTWORKS
Luneta Phan
In the previous art publication – Art magazine “Local Lacquer & Vietnamese Chassis”, “Art curator (Part 1) – Guardian of the arts” article, Lunet Art shared:
Why do you need a collector of artworks for your own collection which carries your personal class and style? And I said, “Sometimes when you are greedy, you eat to feel full but you still… craving for something else – pretty delicious” – Vaguely, you crave for something that touches your emotions more.
We gathered all the insights and tips to share with you:
First, no matter what you collect, you must show your knowledge in selecting and collecting them. Certainly, your collection must contain a specific content, a clear style and a unified whole.
Each painting work has artist’s own style, it contains its own rhythm and melody. But when combined, they have to be a great remix, a unique style and a unified whole. Each remix has different tracks, rhythms, and tunes, but when they are in harmony and get unified, they can be add a lot of values.

Selecting a collection of works to display as an event of art organizations
Whether your organization is large or small, a business or political, social organization, your organization will also have its own “characteristics”. You want to demonstrate that your organization has an interest in art. Therefore, the collection to prove it is well worth it.
But in particular, you are an art operation organization, each exhibition of your organization, the curators may have a bad “headache” – the collection of works that go beyond the limit of finding an aura or a fame of wealth, which is the “honor” of an art operation organization.
A professional perspective is that, a professional curator will select a work of art of high quality, lasting and of lasting artistic value – while for each artist their works are “fair” – be both the best ones. So, the professional curator, he has to cultivate a sense of justice, not only does he “love the works” but he also has the task of “destroying his own personal love”. Destroying his own personal love is to find out what “lovely” point of the artwork in the most objective way.

Selecting collections of artworks carrying the collector’s personal style
I know, every individual already has fascination with beauty, but everyone wants a lot more and more than what they have and can have. And, almost like those desires, make you disoriented and lose a shape of the “unique style” in your collection.
In order to assert your level, you need to show your individuality – in your personal collection. A collection, which includes a lot of “expensive” artworks – does not mean that the whole series is “valuable.” And if it does not reflect the collector’s style, it is very wasteful.
Other tips for collectors
Be wary of the news that “hypes” auctions, making art auctions. It raises the price of art much more than a real collector’s auction. The “hype” of real market value, it urges financiers, stimulates the fascination of financial investors instead of art investment. But, if vigilant, it is hard to convince true art lovers, true collectors
.
And, you should know the role of an art gallery. Even if an artist – they can build a good market channel themselves, they trade out. But a physical showroom will be the real existence, the best for your senses, it gives you the most objective and right feeling when looking at and deciding on a collection of works. The art gallery is also the best place for you to objectively face your feelings.
Absolutely, do not choose to buy works “online”.
Finally, choose a professional organization, they will help you overcome all these difficulties, and give you a chance to continue replacing the works that you collected, regularly. Because in the development of life, surely your lifestyle could be changed over the time.
